Our Commitment to Sustainable Packaging
Our Commitment to Sustainable Packaging
At Bush Berry, our dedication to sustainability drives every aspect of our business, including our packaging choices. We are thrilled to announce that we have fully transitioned to using compostable packaging made by Rootree, a proudly Canadian company focused on environmentally friendly solutions. Our packaging is manufactured in Canada, further reducing our carbon footprint.
Why Loose-Leaf Tea?
We choose loose-leaf tea over traditional tea bags because loose tea is not only better for the environment but also provides a superior taste experience. Unlike conventional tea bags that often contain harmful microplastics and generate additional waste, loose-leaf tea allows you to enjoy pure, natural flavors without compromise.
What Makes Our Packaging Different
Unlike most pouches made from petroleum-based plastics, our packaging materials are fully compostable—designed to break down naturally and safely, without leaving behind harmful residues. No microplastics, just pure, earth-friendly materials.
Where Can You Compost Our Packaging?
Our packaging is designed to decompose in your backyard! The films and inks are certified for home composting, while the zippers and valves are certified for industrial composting. To compost at home, simply cut off the zipper and valve (if applicable) and dispose of them separately.
Home Compost Vs. Industrial Compost
The main difference between home and industrial composting lies in the conditions. Home composting may take 8–12 months due to fluctuating temperatures, while industrial composting facilities achieve decomposition in less than 6 months under controlled conditions with heat, oxygen, and microbes.
Is The Packaging City Green Bin Safe?
Currently, our compostable packages cannot be placed in your green bin. While our packaging is compostable, it resembles regular plastics, making it challenging for municipal facilities to properly sort. Until composting infrastructure improves, we recommend composting at home or taking it to private facilities that accept compostable packaging.
What Happens If It Ends Up In The Landfill?
Even in landfills, our compostable packaging will not leach harmful chemicals like plastics do. It also avoids breaking down into harmful microplastics that pollute our environment. Additionally, the packaging is made from renewable resources, resulting in a cleaner, more sustainable pre-lifecycle footprint compared to plastic packaging.
How Long Will It Take To Compost My Package?
In a home composting environment, our packaging decomposes in approximately 8–12 months. When processed at an industrial composting facility, it can decompose in 6 months or less. All compostable films are verified by a third party for disposal in both home and industrial composting systems.
Why Do Our Bags Look Like Plastic?
Our compostable packaging is made with clear films printed using HP Indigo Digital Technology, ensuring high-quality, sustainable packaging. The inks used are certified for compostable packaging, while the matte film is Certified Wood Pulp Cellulose.
How Long Does The Packaging Preserve The Tea?
Our compostable packaging effectively preserves the freshness of our tea for up to 2 years under controlled conditions. While compostable packaging has a shorter lifespan than plastic, we prioritize quality and sustainability in every step of our packaging process.
Reused and Recyclable Outer Packaging
Beyond our compostable pouches, we continue our commitment to sustainability by reusing outer packaging materials and using recyclable box filler. We strive to minimize our environmental footprint with every shipment.
